MyInvois is the e-invoicing system run by LHDN, Malaysia’s tax authority. An e-invoice is invoice data you submit to LHDN for validation before you send it to a customer. LHDN is rolling this out in phases, ordered by a business’s annual revenue. Check hasil.gov.my for the date that applies to your category.
What is an e-invoice?
An e-invoice is not a PDF or a scanned copy of a paper bill. It is structured invoice data in a format that LHDN’s system can read and check.
The flow is simple to describe:
- You create the invoice in a system that supports e-invoicing.
- The system sends the invoice data to LHDN’s MyInvois platform.
- LHDN validates it and returns a unique reference and a QR code.
- You then share the validated e-invoice with your customer.
The important point is validation. A traditional invoice is just a document you issue. An e-invoice is a document that LHDN has checked and recorded first.
What is MyInvois?
MyInvois is the platform LHDN uses to receive, validate, and store e-invoices. LHDN stands for Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.
Businesses connect to MyInvois in one of two ways:
- The MyInvois Portal. A web page where you key in or upload invoice data by hand. This suits businesses with a low volume of invoices.
- An API connection. Your accounting or billing software talks to MyInvois directly. This suits businesses with a higher volume, because it removes manual data entry.
Either way, the goal is the same. Each invoice reaches LHDN, gets validated, and comes back with a QR code and a unique reference.
Why did LHDN introduce e-invoicing?
LHDN introduced e-invoicing to give the tax authority a clearer, closer-to-real-time view of business transactions. The stated aims are:
- To reduce tax leakage and manual reporting errors.
- To standardise how invoices are recorded across the country.
- To make it easier for businesses to reconcile their records with LHDN’s.
For a small business, the practical effect is that your records and LHDN’s records now match more closely. Over time, this should reduce the amount of paperwork you keep for an audit.
How the rollout works: phased by revenue
E-invoicing is not switched on for every business at once. LHDN is rolling it out in phases. Larger businesses, measured by annual revenue, join first. Smaller businesses join in later phases.
The exact dates and revenue bands have changed since the programme began, and LHDN can adjust them again. For that reason, this guide does not quote specific dates or thresholds.
To find the date for your business:
- Go to the official LHDN site at hasil.gov.my, or the MyInvois portal.
- Look for the e-invoice implementation timeline.
- Match your business’s annual revenue to the correct phase.
If you are unsure which band you fall into, your accountant or tax agent can confirm it. Do not rely on second-hand figures from social media or forums, because the schedule is updated from time to time.
What a small business actually needs
You do not need to become a tax expert. In practice, a small business needs three things:
| Need | What it means |
|---|---|
| A way to issue a validated e-invoice | A system connected to MyInvois, or access to the MyInvois portal |
| Correct business details | Your registered name, SSM number, and tax details on file |
| A record you can keep | The validated e-invoice, with its QR code and LHDN reference |
The first item is the one most owners worry about. You either key each invoice into the MyInvois portal by hand, or you use software and services that submit the data for you. The second option saves time and reduces mistakes.
How Office Niaga handles this for you
When you buy Google Workspace or Office Niaga Mail through Office Niaga, you do not have to build any of this yourself for that order. Every order comes with two documents:
- A proper Malaysian SST tax invoice.
- A validated MyInvois e-invoice.
That means the invoice for your email or Workspace subscription is already submitted to LHDN and validated. You keep the SST tax invoice for your accounts, and the e-invoice satisfies the MyInvois requirement for that purchase. It is one less system for you to set up and one less invoice to worry about.
This applies whether you choose business email hosting on your own domain or a full Google Workspace plan. You can read more about how we issue these documents on our MyInvois page.
We also bill in Ringgit and accept card, FPX online banking, e-wallet, and BNPL. So the payment, the SST tax invoice, and the MyInvois e-invoice are handled together.
If you want to move your email or Workspace to a provider that issues both documents for every order, get a quote and we will help you plan it.
FAQ
Is MyInvois compulsory for my business yet?
It depends on your annual revenue and the current phase of the rollout. LHDN adds businesses in stages, with larger businesses first. Check hasil.gov.my or the MyInvois portal for the date that applies to your revenue band, and confirm it with your tax agent if you are unsure.
What is the difference between an SST tax invoice and a MyInvois e-invoice?
An SST tax invoice is the document you issue that shows the Sales and Service Tax on a sale. A MyInvois e-invoice is the same transaction data, submitted to LHDN and validated. For each Office Niaga order, we provide both, so your accounts and your LHDN record match.
Do I need special software to issue an e-invoice?
Not always. You can key invoices into the MyInvois portal by hand if your volume is low. For higher volume, software that connects to MyInvois by API saves time and reduces errors. For your Office Niaga email or Workspace orders, we issue the validated e-invoice for you.
Where can I find the official e-invoice timeline?
The official source is LHDN at hasil.gov.my, along with the MyInvois portal. The timeline and revenue bands are updated from time to time, so always check the official site rather than third-party summaries. Your accountant or tax agent can also confirm your phase.
