Is there any way to get both plans?

Two ways, each with a trade-off. One: two separate Google accounts on two domains - for example Starter on yourcompany.com and Standard on yourcompany.my. It works, but the Standard group gets addresses on the second domain, and the two groups become separate organisations inside Google. Two: Google Workspace for the people who need it, and Office Niaga Mail for staff who only need email. Both are explained on this page.

Can two people share one licence to save money?

No. Google is explicit: "Multiple users can't share a single Google Workspace license, even if they don't use all of the tools." One licence per person. Google: How licensing works .

We start on Business Starter. Can we move to Business Standard later?

Yes. We upgrade the subscription and the whole team moves to Standard together. Mailboxes, files and settings stay where they are. What you cannot do is upgrade only some of the people.

Starter is short on storage. Do we have to upgrade?

Not necessarily. Additional pooled storage can be added to a Business Starter account as a separate add-on - we saw it offered in the console for a Starter customer. It adds space. It does not add shared drives or meeting recording, which are the real reasons to choose Standard.

What does Business Starter not include?

The two that cause complaints are shared drives and Meet recording . Starter also caps meetings at 100 participants against Standard's 150, and gives 30 GB of pooled storage per user against 2 TB. Check the current list on Google's edition comparison , since Google can change it.

We are on free Gmail now. Can we convert to Google Workspace?

You move rather than convert. A free @gmail.com address is a personal account; Google Workspace runs on your own domain, so addresses become name@yourcompany.com. Mail, contacts and calendar are migrated across, and the personal account keeps working afterwards. See our migration guide , or request a quote .

Not on one account bought through us. We checked this in the partner console we order through on 23 September 2026: a customer already on Business Starter is not offered Business Standard as a second subscription. The only route to Standard is upgrading the whole account, which moves everybody. So pick one Business plan for the team.

For most small teams it comes down to one question - do you need shared drives? If you truly need both plans, there are two workarounds, each with a real trade-off, covered below.

A Malaysian company asked us this on WhatsApp: they are on free Gmail, moving to Google Workspace, and wanted six Business Standard seats and seven Business Starter seats. It is a sensible idea. A few people live in shared folders and run recorded meetings; the rest need a professional mailbox. We said yes at first. Then we checked the console, and the answer was no.

What we found

On 23 September 2026 we opened a live customer in Google's Partner Sales Console. The customer has an active Business Starter subscription. Under New service, the console offered:

Google Workspace Additional Storage - 100 GB, 1 TB and 10 TB
Business Starter - Archived User, for keeping data of staff who have left

Business Standard did not appear - not as available, and not as unavailable. The subscription itself carries an Upgrade button, and upgrading changes the edition for every user on it.

Why other pages say yes. Google's licensing guide mentions buying "multiple subscriptions of the same service, such as different editions of Google Workspace". That sentence is real, but it does not say which editions can sit together, and Google publishes no list either way. We relied on it at first and were wrong. The console is where the order is actually placed, so that is the answer we trust.

A shared drive belongs to the team rather than to one person, so files stay when someone leaves. If your company keeps its working files in shared drives, everyone who opens them needs Standard - and since you cannot split the account, that means the whole team.

If you mainly need professional email, calendars and Docs, Starter is enough, and you can upgrade later without moving any data.

What 13 users cost, each way

Google's list price converted to Ringgit, with no reseller markup, plus a one-off RM100 setup fee. SST at 8% applies to the total.

The first-year discount is ours, applies automatically, and is capped at 20 users - above that the extra seats bill at list. Business Plus has no first-year discount.

Prices are annual, per user, in Ringgit Malaysia, as at September 2026. Your figure depends on seat count and start date - request a quote and we will put it in writing.

A simple way to choose

Pick Business Standard if the team shares working folders, records client calls or training, or stores a lot of files.
Pick Business Starter if the team mainly needs email on your own domain, calendars and Docs.
Not sure? Start on Starter. Upgrading later moves everyone to Standard and keeps all data in place.

If you really need both plans

There are two honest workarounds. Neither is free of trade-offs, so it is worth knowing them before you choose.

Option 1: two Google accounts, on two domains

Each Google Workspace account runs one Business plan, but nothing stops a company having two accounts. For example, Business Starter on yourcompany.com for most staff, and Business Standard on yourcompany.my for the team that needs shared drives and recording.

The second group changes address. A domain can belong to only one Google account, so the Standard staff get [email protected], not .com. For management and sales, that is often the deciding factor.
You run two separate organisations. Two admin consoles and two staff directories. Calendar, Chat and file sharing between the two groups count as sharing with an outside organisation.
Check shared drives before you commit. If the Starter staff need to open the Standard team's shared drives, tell us first. We have not confirmed that it works across two accounts, and we will test it on yours rather than promise it.
Two setup fees, and a second domain. Each account pays its own one-off setup, and you must register the second domain if you do not already own it.

Option 2: Google Workspace plus Office Niaga Mail

Put the people who need shared drives, recording and the full Google suite on Google Workspace, and give staff who only send and read email a mailbox on Office Niaga Mail, our lower-cost email service. It costs a fraction of a Workspace licence. The trade-off is that email-only staff do not get Google Drive, Docs or Meet. The price calculator sizes the split.
