What is SmarterMail?
SmarterMail is a mail server product from SmarterTools. Hosting companies run it to give customers email on their own domain, such as [email protected]. It receives, stores and sends messages. It also keeps shared calendars, contacts and tasks for a team.
SmarterMail is not an app that you download. It is server software. Someone must run it, keep it patched and filter the mail that passes through it. That person is your own IT team or a managed provider. We return to this choice below.
The webmail experience
SmarterMail includes a browser webmail client. Your staff sign in with their email address and password. They read and send mail from any browser. Mail, calendars, contacts and tasks are in one place. A new user does not need a desktop program to start.
SmarterMail also supports the standard protocols. Staff who prefer a desktop or phone app can use one. Your team does not have to use only the webmail.

It is a good fit when your documents are already somewhere else, such as local drives or another cloud store. It is also a good fit when you do not need an office suite tied to your mailbox.
SmarterMail is not the full Google Workspace suite
SmarterMail is business email with calendars, contacts and tasks. It is not Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat, Drive or Gemini AI. Your team can need shared documents, video meetings and large cloud storage in one place. In that case, Google Workspace is the better tool, and Office Niaga resells it too.

Self-hosted or managed?
