Open the create menu
Click the + button at the top right of Classroom.
Select "Create class"
Click Create class. "Join class" is for students.
Type the class name
Type a name that your students know, for example Form 4 Biology.
Type the section
Type the class group, for example 4 Bestari. Students see the name and the section together.
Make the class
Click Create. Classroom makes the class and opens its Stream page.
Copy the class code
Students join the class with this code. Click Copy, then send the code to your class group.
Open Classwork
Click the Classwork tab. You put assignments, quizzes and materials here.
Start an assignment
Click + Create.
Select "Assignment"
Click Assignment.
Type the title
Type a short title, for example Cell division: worksheet 1.
Set the due date
In Due, select Friday, 7:59 AM. Classroom tells students when work is late.
Assign the work
Click Assign. Each student gets the work and an email about it.

What you practised

Make a class with a name and a section, so that students find the correct class.
Give students the class code. They type it in Join class.
Post an assignment on the Classwork page, with a due date.

In the real Classroom, you can also invite students by email on the People page, and mark their work on the Marks page.

Frequently asked questions

1Is Google Classroom free for schools?

Yes. Classroom is part of Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals, which is free for qualifying schools and colleges. The paid editions (Education Standard and Education Plus) add security tools, more storage and more features.

2Can students join with a personal Gmail account?

The school admin decides. Most schools let only school accounts join, so that student data stays in the school domain.

3Do I need to install anything?

No. Classroom works in a browser on Windows, Mac and Chromebook. There are also apps for Android and iPhone.
